Who decides and how do we decide what is art? And are there different judgements to be made about socially engaged, collaborative, community or “high” art?
What kind of responses are European training institutions making to the changing landscape of employment and working patterns for today’s artists?
And what are the implications for European cultural policy?
Transmission is a matrix of arts organisations, training institutions, individual artists and networks across Europe that has been working together to address these questions.
As a result there is now an MA at
Goldsmiths College, London University
and pilot trainings in Austria, Finland and the Netherlands.
And a publication:
The Creative Worker: new perspectives for artists
that looks at the current landscape from the point of view of artists, employers, and cultural thinkers from the six partner countries.
